Monkey Drainer Scammer Strikes Again, Steals $800K of NFTs

post

Notorious non-fungible token (NFT) scammer Monkey Drainer has stolen $800,000 worth of CryptoPunk and Otherside NFTs, according to blockchain sleuth ZachXBT.

The hack was the second in as many weeks, with the prolific phishing scammer swindling $1 million worth of crypto and NFTs on Oct. 25.

This time, the wallet tagged as Monkey Drainer stole seven CryptoPunks and 20 Otherside NFTs before flushing the ill-gotten gains through anonymous coin mixer Tornado cash, as reported by blockchain security firm PeckShield.

The latest attack follows a worrying trend across the crypto industry, with more than $718 million being stolen across decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols during the first two weeks in October, making it the worst month for hacks since the inception of cryptocurrencies.

American actor Bill Murray fell victim to one of these hacks in September, with an unidentified attacker stealing $185,000 from Murray's personal wallet after he closed an NFT auction.
